##### Overview
Colthom was originally a small settlement populated with hunters and fur trappers.
When the [[The Falonian Empire]] encroached on [[Helios]], many fled the region and found Colthom an attractive place to settle down - particularly due to the proximity of large herds of [[Flower Buffalo]] that roamed the [[Difor Plains]].
The young town was ruled by the [[Sun Committee]] - a very slow and deliberative body.
There also was a small but influential faction known as the [[Returners]] - who wanted to return to their homeland.
A strange plague hit the [[Flower Buffalo]]. It was a [[Spider Flower Parasite]] that hijacked the Buffalo neural pathways and causing giant spider legs to emerge from the body. The herds were driven crazy. There were stampedes in town. Infected meat caused the parasite to pass to humans creating spider-human zombies. Luckily the parasite was not well adapted to the human body, or the situation could have gotten much worse.
Eventually all the infected buffalo and people were killed and burned. [[Buffalo Ranch]] was established at the southern edge of the settlement for the purpose of controlling the Buffalo population. It wound up being a huge advancement for the settlement creating a surplus of buffalo products - meat, fur, leather, etc..
Trade was established with the nearby town of [[Claymor]] - who specialized in iron working.
The [[Sparkly Sinkhole]] opened up to the north of town, revealing a field of gems. Almost overnight, the settlement became wealthy, at least for the wealthy class that formed. The lower classes saw some immediate benefits in terms of infrastructure upgrades and various beautification projects. However, the social structure of the city got more stratified as time went on.
The [[Klasp Barony]] were granted stewardship of the region from the emperor and tried to claim Colthom. There was resistance at first, but the barony found a friend in the [[Returners]] and were able to take control of the city. Members of the [[Sun Committee]] and their supporters fled to nearby [[Claymor]].
With [[The Falonian Empire]] ever expanding, the military was in constant need of food and supplies. The buffalo industry in Colthorn was turned to supplying the needs of the army. This didn't effect the upper class as much, but the lower class saw the cost of living become much higher.
With the aid of an uneasy alliance with the [[Claymor Bersekers]], the [[Sun Committee]] took back their town from the [[Klasp Barony]]. [[Emperor Falon|The Emperor]] had his attention on other parts of the world so there wasn't a lot of military presence in the area and the [[Claymor Bersekers]] were quite formidable. However, the [[Claymor Elders]] had other ideas and instead claimed the city for themselves. They build a wall and other fortifications around the city.
The city still fell to the Empire in an unspecified way just a few years before [[Rampseed]] did
