**We didn't choose this fight.** It had been over two hundred years since the First Ferrel King had united the clans and ended the Clan Wars. In that time, Ferreland grew to be a peaceful place. We cleared the war torn land and planted fields, our swords now plows. We built cities and culture. We thrived. We knew of Emperor Falon and their spread across the lower continents, but that was far away. To us, they was a semi-friendly neighbor, a trade partner, a diplomatic associate. It had not crossed our mind that they would ever set their sights on our little island kingdom of peaceful farmers. Maybe they never would have, had it not been for the Starwhal, those unihorned giants of the sea. Every year, they would return to the inlet by Kelport and their presence would cause the Starwhal Blood to bloom. Once a novelty, a process was discovered to change the red algae into a potent fuel called Starplasm. Everything changed. While many were interested in the discovery, it was that global conglomerate Metazon that first laid the groundwork for harnessing this new power. The Factory took less than a year to build. As supplies and manpower steadily entered our city, it soon became apparent that this was just a beachhead for the Empire. Soon, we were an occupied city in all but name. The Factory was belching out poisonous air and we began seeing a military presence on our streets. Our politicians showed their bellies to these newcomers, hoping to curry favor. Our people, however, grew angry at this incursion on our sovereignty. Resistance cells formed. Then came The Night of a Thousand Bombs. It wasn't really a thousand, but a series of destructive blasts rang throughout the city, damaging many places that were cooperative with the Imperial presence, including the Council Hall. While a tough blow to the occupiers, their response was to clamp down harder. Now here we are, many months later. Our food is rationed. We have a curfew. There are checkpoints throughout our city. The Falonian Empire have taken our beloved city of Kelport. They will not stop there.
